Is it true that computer viruses are created to market anti-virus software?

There are so many computer viruses that gives us troubles while we are using our computer or using any IT products. Everyday there are so many new viruses that discovered. Do you think they are just created by people who wants to make money by selling their anti-virus softwares. Don't you wonder how they know the solutions/cures to those viruses if they don't have knowledge on how the viruses works and the destructions it may create.

Viruses are more or less created by College computer tech freshman with nothing better to do than create malicious programs simply because they can and they are bored.....

They then create the Anti-Virus programs when they are seniors because they actually have the skills required to solve the viruses they created as Freshman.....So they create these programs and earn money for the problems they created years earlier...

It's kinda like self-employment with twice the fun! :D
This is nothing more than a conspiracy theory as one answer already stated. With all the companies that produce anti-virus software...how would they split the pie?
