Viruses and usb memory sticks?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Am I right in saying that a computer virus is something that's actually created by a person? A friend said his memory stick got a virus because he didn't remove it ''safely'' from his computer and just kept unplugging it.

I don't think viruses just arise randomly like that, they have to be created by someone. Am I right?

yes, you're right, viruses actually are computer programs designed to harm other computers, they are made by humans, and your friend doesn't have an idea, his flash drive can't get a virus that way...

Yes it's created by human, it's same thing like normal software just only the virus will do something that you never expect like deleting files, format HDD, deleting system files and so on
u can burn out a memory stick by doing that but not get a virus. You can get a virus on a memory stick but it has nothing to do with how you remove it
