Are there any known viruses for Mac computers?

I just got an iMac the other day because I was utterly sick of windows and its viruses and spyware. If course, I bought into the notion that Macs don't get viruses because of their ''superior'' operating system. I was told this by Mac's website and from several mac users who claim for years to not have had a virus at all. My skeptical side tells me to get an anti virus program.

u'll need an anti-virus program. common sense tells u that mac computers have their own viruses.

Yes there are, there are also known viruses for Linux.

However, there are probably 95% less viruses for a mac or Linux than there are for windows....

My brother has a mac for 2 years now, never had a virus or issue.

It is highly unlikely you need to worry about that on a mac. Unless you do a bunch of illegal software downloading and things you shouldnt be doing...

Other than that, its always a risk in general, but with a mac or linux your chances are FAR less than windows in getting a virus.

Im a windows/linux user and my brother is a mac user, so Ive been able to discover much on this angle of things.
''There are about 60,000 viruses known for Windows, 40 or so for the Macintosh, about 5 for commercial Unix versions, and perhaps 40 for Linux. Most of the Windows viruses are not important, but many hundreds have caused widespread damage. Two or three of the Macintosh viruses were widespread enough to be of importance. None of the Unix or Linux viruses became widespread - most were confined to the laboratory.''
