FrostWire itself is perfectly safe. However, people can choose to share any file they wish on Frostwire, and that includes viruses. Usually they will trick you into downloading the file by calling it something else, like a popular song or porn.
But you can prevent yourself from ever getting a virus through Frostwire. For one, viruses can't be transferred through music or video files, so when you search for something, make sure you click on "audio" or "video" first. Don't search through "all" or "programs" because it could bring back results that are possibly viruses.
Even if you do download a virus, it can't hurt your computer unless you open it. Plus, if your anti-virus is working, then it would identify it as a virus as soon as you download it. Remember, song files and video files can't have viruses in them. If they have a media player icon next to them, then they are fine. If they have a folder icon . . . .http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...

Can't really put viruses in mp3s, but they can in a round about way in videos.
A lot of the videos will have a license that it has to download. If your media player is set to automatically retrieve licenses, it could open up the site that the license is on, which, in turn, could be a site full of viruses.
Check your settings.

Yes. The bad guys are tricky these days.
They have even discovered how to hide stuff in images, but those are VERY rare as they are difficult to produce.
